Monique S.

Alumnus at Bowie State University

Class of 2019

Current: Ashburn, VA

Major: communications

Concentration: Public Relations

Why did you choose your major?

I have always had a passion for writing. I also enjoy meeting new people so I decided to choose a career that is made up of everything that I love and I landed on public relations.

What attracted you to Bowie State University?

Being a public relations major, I wanted to be close to the Nation's Capital, being that, that is the number one place for black women in PR to be.

What sets Bowie State University apart from other schools?

Bowie State University is a family. Bowie State University is the school that allowed me to serve in many capacities, from being on the campus activities board, to Miss Essence, to becoming a sister of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., to now serving as the 72nd Miss Bowie State University. Bowie has shaped me into the woman I am today. Not only did they give me a home but they gave me numerous scholarships to help along the way.

Which building is your favorite and why?

MLK is my favorite because that is the communication department's home. That is where the WBSU Radio Station is, as well as BSU TV.
